Fireproofing

Fireproofing refers to the process of making something resistant to catching fire or being damaged by fire.

What is fireproofing?

Fireproofing refers to the process of making something resistant to catching fire or being damaged by fire. This can involve treating materials or structures with special coatings, additives, or designs to make them less likely to ignite or sustain flames in the event of a fire.

What are the different fire resistance ratings?

The different fire resistance ratings typically used in construction include:

  • Non-rated
  • 1-hour rating
  • 2-hour rating
  • 3-hour rating
  • 4-hour rating

What is meant by a 60/60/60 fire resistance level?

A 60/60/60 fire resistance level means that a  structure has been tested and certified to withstand exposure to fire for 60 minutes in terms of structural stability, 60 minutes for integrity (preventing the passage of flames and hot gases), and 60 minutes for insulation (limiting the transfer of heat).

Essentially, this rating means it can endure fire for one hour without significant damage, while maintaining its structural integrity and preventing the spread of flames and heat.
