What is rising damp?

Rising damp is a type of moisture problem that happens in buildings when water from the ground moves upward through the walls. This usually occurs because the bricks or walls act like straws, pulling the water up through tiny channels.

How can you treat rising damp?

To treat rising damp, you can use a special cream that's injected into the walls. Small holes are made in the mortar between the bricks, and then the cream is pumped or injected into these holes. This cream creates a barrier that stops the water from travelling up the walls, helping to solve the rising damp problem.

What are some signs of rising damp?

Some signs of rising damp can include:

  • Damp stains and tidemarks on walls
  • Damp or wet patches appearing on walls
  • Salts within the plaster, often seen as white powdery deposits
  • Peeling wallpaper or paint
  • Flaky or bubbling plaster
  • Rotting skirting boards and flooring
  • Damp and musty smell in the affected area
