Why should I use OpenAgent to help me find a real estate agent?

We spend our days figuring out what makes a great real estate agent and gathering as much information as possible about real estate agents in Australia. We look at over 25,000 real estate agents (ALL real estate agents in Australia) to figure out who is the right agent to sell your property. You can benefit from our hard work, and our service is free for sellers. Why wouldn't you at least find out what our research says about real estate agents in your area?

What are the benefits of using OpenAgent to find a real estate agent?

Hire the best: You will find out which real estate agents are most qualified to sell your property, based on research into recent and all-time sales performance and customer reviews

Sell for more: We only introduce you to highly experienced agents who are deeply in touch with the local market, have lists of active buyers, and who understand how to get the best price for your property

How do you assess who the top agents are?

We have built a significant amount of data behind our agent rating and matching engine. We analyse all active real estate agents in Australia, looking at past sales (over 2,000,000 transactions) and also customer recommendations and reviews (more than 14,000 recommendations and reviews). When you search on the OpenAgent website, we use all of this data to determine the real estate agents who have the most relevant experience, are most successful at selling, and who have a track record of providing excellent service to their clients.

How many agents will you introduce to me?

We always consider ALL real estate agents operating in your area. When you submit a query online, you will instantly see up to the top 5 agents displayed, based on the information we have about you and your property.

From there, our team will follow up with you as soon as possible to make sure you are a real person (no spam allowed!), understand a bit more about your property, and see if you are interested in agent introductions from us. We never pass on your details to agents until we have spoken to you first and you have told us that you want to hear from them.

How many agents we introduce really depends on your situation and the number of quality agents in your area. We normally start with 2 agents, and then check in with you to get feedback, and if needed we then refine your research and come back with more agents for you to interview until we find you the perfect agent.

Does using OpenAgent cost me anything?

No. Our service is 100% free for sellers. There are no sneaky costs or hidden charges. We hate them and know you do too.

So, how does OpenAgent make money?

We charge an industry-standard fee to the real estate agent you select. All agents pay us the same fee (20% of the agreed commission), and it is only paid when your property is sold and you are happy. It is in our interests to find you the best agent, who will be a good match for you and who will sell your property and get you a great result.

Why do agents use your service instead of finding listings on their own?

Most agents do market their services as well. However, finding quality listings can be expensive and time consuming – taking agents away from their core business and often targeting people who aren't even in the market. Open Agent gives great agents the opportunity to compete fairly for your listing, knowing you're a genuine and motivated seller. All it costs them is the standard industry referral fee if they successfully sell your home.

Why do you need my phone number?

We only provide our service to people who are real people and who actually want our service (sounds reasonable?). We've found there is no substitute for a real conversation with a real, live human, to figure out who genuinely wants our help. We'll do our best to call at a time that suits you, and keep the conversation as short or as long as you want it to be.

Do you sell or share my information?

Absolutely not. We never sell, trade or pass along your personal information to other parties. We only use your personal information to match you with the best agents for your property, and we only share your details with an estate agent if you agree first and ask us to introduce you.

Can I just call the agents myself?

The only way for us to bring you all our research and technology for free is if we can be paid by the real estate agents who benefit from our services. For this reason, we really appreciate you letting us make the initial introduction to the agents so they understand that you used our service to help you find a great agent.

Can I exclude agents from the process?

Absolutely. If there is an agent you do not wish for us to contact or consider, then let us know in the registration process and we will make sure they are excluded.

What if I've already contacted an agent?

Not a problem. It's not unusual for sellers to turn to OpenAgent after their own search has failed to turn up the perfect agent, or just to double-check the competition before they sign. We'll simply exclude any agents you've already contacted from your search.

Am I obliged to use one of the agents you introduce?

Absolutely not. There are NO obligations or sneaky catches with OpenAgent. We will always do our best to find and introduce the best local agents to you, but if you don't like the agents we source for you, then of course there will be no hard feelings. We would appreciate your feedback though, so we can keep improving our matching engine!

Will the real estate agents you introduce charge me more or pass on the fee?

No. The referral fee is deducted from the commission and does not increase the cost of selling a property. In any case, we always recommend our clients get 2-3 quotes from the best agents, to compare their services and charges. We also make sure the agents we introduce know they are up against their toughest competitors. We have found this is the best way to make sure you are getting a good deal from a great agent.

Is OpenAgent fair and transparent?

Yes, absolutely. We are not associated or affiliated with any agent or agency. All of our agent selections are based on facts. We look at agents working in your area and compare sales of similar properties to yours, as well as what past clients have to say about their service and results.  All agents pay us the same fee (20% of agreed commission), so we are simply motivated to introduce you to the one who will get you the best result.

Do agents work harder for OpenAgent clients than for direct listings?

The best real estate agents work hard to get a great result for all their clients. But OpenAgent is in a position to provide the best real estate agents with a regular source of business, and the agents are aware that we are watching and monitoring their performance. They also know we are going to ask you what you thought of their performance (and publish what you say!). Some agents have told us they work harder for the clients that come through us because they understand that if they delight OpenAgent clients, they are more likely to be positively reviewed and then highly ranked by our system.

Is OpenAgent available in my area?

Yes! If you are looking to sell your property anywhere in Australia, we can help. In some rare cases, you may get empty instant search results. This is usually because you are searching in a more remote suburb or something went wrong with the technology (oops!). We can still conduct personalised research for you to find quality agents for you, for any property in Australia.
