The word Parramatta is derived from 'Burramutta', a term the Darug people used to describe the area, translating roughly to 'eel waters'. Today the name still holds this sentiment, the city's exciting restaurant and cafe culture please anyone with a passion for food. Compared to other Sydney suburbs the city has an abundance of young professionals, who have relished in the abundant supply of units in the cities centre, although family homes are still found in the perimeter suburbs.

Geographically in the centre of greater Sydney, Parramatta serves as a major transport hub for Western Sydney, with a bus terminal, recently updated train station and the exciting potential of $1 billion allocated for future light-rail services. Another compelling development is the City of Parramatta Council's ambitious plans to double the size of its CBD within the next 10 years, rivalling Sydney CBD. One of the main projects in this initiative is the Parramatta Square Project, which will see an expansive new commercial and civic space as well as a residential tower, which when complete, will be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
