Tucked-in between the CBD and the Pacific coastline, are Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Providing a balance of work and play, and a perfect blend of city and surf, there's no question why these suburbs are sought after. The area is postcard perfect, offering views spanning the harbour, coastal walks over towering, sandstone cliff faces, as well as your choice of over 20 vibrant beaches, including Coogee, Bronte and the world-famous Bondi Beach. Home to around 250,000 people, the Eastern Suburbs stretch over five local government areas including the Municipality of Woollahra, Waverley Council, City of Randwick, parts of the Bayside Council and bits of the City of Sydney.

The Eastern Suburbs aren't just another bunch of beachy towns, oh no, they're all about lifestyle, glamour and urban living. With restaurants galore, high-end fashion outlets and a very evolved bar and cafe culture, the area is a playground for everyone from tourists, stylish young professionals and those simply with a taste for the finer things. If markets are more your thing then the Moore Park Foodies and Farmers Market and the Bondi Farmers Market, have got you covered. Another colourful attraction is the Bondi-Tamarama coastal walk, which hosts the annual Sculpture by the Sea festival- the largest of its kind in the world.

For the sporting types, there is just about everything, including the infamous Randwick Racecourse. Moore Park, adjacent to Centennial Park is famous for its entertainment quarter, however, it also harbours a golf course and the Sydney Football Stadium. For boating types, not only is there plenty of water and mooring space, but South Head also offers a perfect vantage point to view the Boxing Day Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Apart from an exciting lifestyle and seaside beauty, the Eastern Suburbs hold a lot of historic value. The suburb of La Perouse was originally an area of cultural significance to the local Kameygal people, who have had an unbroken connection to the land since sea levels stabilised, after the last ice age. The La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council has a continuing presence in the area. La Perouse was also a site for early French settlement, the area featuring a museum recounting the endeavours of these early navigators. The stately Vaucluse House, built in 1903, was home to William Charles Wentworth, an early colonial explorer and is open to tours, while just up the road along the Federation Cliff walk, is the Macquarie Lighthouse, Australia's oldest.

Real Estate in the Eastern Suburbs varies from suburb to suburb, with smaller apartments and terraces found in Bondi, family-sized houses in Maroubra, all the way to huge Point Piper mansions, which are among Sydney's most expensive houses. There's a slice of the harbourside for all walks of life, however, sea views will come at a tidy premium. The area is well-served by public transport, though mostly buses along the shoreline. The Eastern Suburbs also contains many exclusive primary and secondary schools, and one of Australia's top universities, the University of New South Wales.
