How did you get started in real estate?

I was house sitting for 6 months in the area while I was looking for a property. I met all the local agents and thought I could do a better job. I come from a hospitality background, I was a chef and a lecturer at TAFE and I quickly came to realise that real estate is about customer service. I got into real estate and smashed it, I got to number one in the company very quickly and moved up from there.

What is your favourite thing about the area you service?

My favourite thing about the area is that its laid back and family friendly. There's hardly any traffic lights. If you go to a government building like the RTA you get served real quick! I love what it provides for families. I have three kids under 7 and there's skateparks, ovals, beaches, shopping centres. Everything for the kids. I originally come from the Inner West of Sydney, but I love it here.

Can you tell us about your most memorable sale?

My most memorable property was one that I sold recently, an acreage property. Other agents went in there and they all told the vendors, 'you won't get more than $1.9 million.' I did open homes on Saturdays and Sundays because I had so much traffic - 47 groups. There were canapes with champagne, everyone had time to wander around because it was a large property. I sold it in 27 days and I ended up getting $2.2 million. The owners were wrapped!

What’s your biggest strength?

My biggest strength is that I do everything to get the right price and have a lot of attention to detail. Everything has to be immaculate. Also, my courtesy and manners go a long way.

What do you like most about your job?

You have to be ready for the unexpected, yesterday I had the opportunity to help a vendor out of the area, so I dropped everything to take that and I listed the property. I love getting referrals and repeat business, I don't do a whole lot of advertising for myself, it's all word of mouth.

What makes a good agent?

What makes a good agent is over-servicing your vendors and your buyers, you really have to do that.

What’s the biggest mistake you see vendors make?

The biggest mistake vendors make is under marketing their property, trying to save a few dollars at the time of listing, which costs them further down the track. It's crucial to promote a property and present it in its best light to maximise profit, at the end of the day a property is their biggest asset.

Why should a vendor choose you?

A vendor should choose me because my open homes are exceptional. I always serve food, drinks, chocolates and lollies for the kids. I always get a stylist involved, I have a whole box full of props that I've bought over time to help out with the presentation. I think people come to me for the marketing that I do and for my presentation which is part of it. I treat open homes like hospitality.
